From Fear to Confidence: A Young Boy’s Journey
James was only 12 years old when he first heard about HIV/AIDS at school.
At first, it was confusing. He had heard different things from different people—some said it was something to fear, others said it was something to hide. Like many young people, he didn’t know what to believe.
“I was scared,” he said. “I thought if someone had HIV, you shouldn’t even go near them.”
Everything changed the day a community outreach team visited his village. They spoke openly about HIV—how it is transmitted, how it is prevented, and how people living with HIV can still live full, healthy lives. For the first time, James felt like he was hearing the truth.
“It made me think differently,” he explained. “I realized people with HIV are just like us.”
That moment stayed with him. James began sharing what he learned with his friends, correcting misconceptions, and encouraging others to be more understanding. What started as fear turned into confidence—and even leadership.
Today, James dreams of becoming a health educator in his community, helping others learn the same lessons that changed his life.
At Cideph Inc., we believe that empowering young people with knowledge creates a ripple effect that reaches entire communities. When one child learns the truth, they become a voice for change.
